Angel's Herald: SpongeBob For LV

SpongeBob For LV

I thought the LV Groom Collection would be the most cartoonic LV ever.

I was wrong. Apparently, SpongeBob is a big inspiration for the Louis Vuitton Spring 2008 Collection, a line collaborated by MJ with Richard Prince. Richard Prince, (born 1949 in the U.S.-controlled Panama Canal Zone, now part of Republic of Panama) is an American painter and photographer. His works have often been the subject of debates within the art world. Trained as a figure painter, Prince began creating collages containing photographs in 1975. His image, ‘Untitled (Cowboy), a rephotograph constructed from cigarette advertisements, was the first ‘photograph’ to raise more than $1 million at auction when it was sold at Christie's New York in 2005 (Wikipedia).

The colors are so SpongeBob-inspired it's not even funny anymore:

And here's the actual SpongeBob straight from Rehab.

But still I think it's marketable, not superficvial. It's Jacobs' way of walking the line between creative freedom and commercial innovation.
