I don't know how to articulate this topic at all, so I just pasted here the whole article from The Scotsman.

Pope to abandon idea of unbaptised babies forever in limbo
STEPHEN MCGINTY

THE Catholic Church is preparing to abandon the idea of limbo, the theological belief that children who die before being baptised are suspended in a space between heaven and hell.

The concept, which was devised in the 13th century and was depicted in numerous works of art during the Renaissance, such as Descent into Limbo by the painter Giotto, and in Dante's masterpiece, the Divine Comedy, is of a metaphysical space where infants are blissfully happy but are not actually in the presence of God.

The idea of limbo was developed as a response to the harshness of early Church teachings which insisted that any child who died before he or she was baptised would still be stained by Original Sin and so would be condemned to hell.

The belief, which is unique to the Catholic Church, has fallen out of favour over the past 50 years. It is rarely mentioned and until recently has been left in its own kind of limbo.

However, an international commission of Catholic theologians, meeting in the Vatican this week, has been pondering the issue and is expected to advise Pope Benedict XVI to announce officially that the theological concept of limbo is incorrect.

Instead, the new belief is expected to be that unbaptised babies will go directly to heaven.

Pope Benedict had already expressed his doubts about limbo when, as Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, he was head of the Vatican's Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, the Church's doctrinal watchdog.

In an interview in 1984, he said: "Limbo has never been a defined truth of faith. Personally, speaking as a theologian and not as head of the Congregation, I would drop something that has always been only a theological hypothesis."

According to Italian Vatican commentators, the reluctance of the theologians to use the word limbo was demonstrated in the way in which the Vatican referred to it in its official statement for this week's meeting. It referred to the week-long conference as a discussion on "the fate of children who die without baptism".

Pope Benedict's predecessor, John Paul II, gave the commission the task of looking at the issue in 2004 and there has always been speculation that he wanted to drop the concept after he wrote his own papal document which gave no clear answer to the question of what happens to children who die before being baptised.

The late pope had written: "The Church can only entrust them to the mercy of God. In fact the great mercy of God, who wants all men to be saved, and the tenderness of Jesus towards children allow us to hope that there is a way of salvation for children who die without baptism."

That view was in contrast to what Pope Pius X had declared in 1905: "Children who die without baptism go into limbo, where they do not enjoy God, but they do not suffer either, because having Original Sin, and only that, they do not deserve paradise, but neither hell or purgatory."

The fate of children who die before baptism has interested Christians since the religion's earliest days.

The idea was first suggested by St Gregory of Nazianzus (329-390 AD), who believed that the unbaptised would neither be punished nor access the full glory of God.

This was dismissed by St Augustine of Hippo (354-430 AD), who insisted instead that baptism was necessary for salvation and that even babies would be consigned to hell if they were not baptised.

He did, however, concede that once in hell their torment would be the mildest of all its residents. This torture of the innocent was unacceptable to St Thomas Aquinas (1226-1274 AD), who was the first major theologian to speculate about the existence of a place called limbo, whose name is derived from the Latin limbus which means "hem" or "edge". There, on the edge of heaven, the unbaptised would exist in a state of what he described as "natural happiness".

Last night, John Haldane, a professor of philosophy at St Andrews University and a consulter to the Vatican's Pontifical Council for Culture, said that the issue of limbo was "something of a medieval curiosity" that no longer preoccupies people. He said that the reason the Catholic Church was clarifying its position was that people still wrongly perceived heaven as a place and not as a state of being.

"The idea of limbo conjures up the image of God as some kind of government bureaucrat who says to people, not just babies, 'Sorry, you don't have your passport stamped with baptism, you'll have to wait over there'.

"Instead, God's powers are such that He can overcome the issue of Original Sin as He chooses, according to special circumstances."

Club Manila East is such a crap na. Such a haven last time I was there in 2002 (or 2001 or 2003, not sure). These days... I don't know, maybe because it's a Sunday. The BeachWave pool is like the dirtiest artificial wave pool in the world, even before people started to swim, I swear!

So here are some retarded notices:

Strictly with the K.

The Biggest Ash Tray (I've seen) for uber addicts. Chain Smokers would be embarrassed, no wonder it's used as a rubbish bin since.

It reads: Parking is not allowed on the gate. "Don't Block The Driveway" would do justice.

It's so hot I want die. And for like a month now I don't have an air-con (it died of natural cause, old age, haha), but it will arrive this Tuesday, so yay!

Elementary Peeps

Posted by: Angelicum on Thursday, April 19, 2007
I was recently PMed by an elementary friend Martin Ojeda (whom I last mingled with when I was in 4th grade) via Friendster, that's when you kind of realize how cool these networking websites (this Multiply for example) actually are.

So I thought of compiling some of them here.

May Valderama: I am still connected somehow, seen her not too long ago, but for my batchmates from the regular class, she's a history. May was homeschooled even before highschool, she's a brat like that, so I have no choice but to be with her on my highschool days since I was also homeschooled then.

Things I won't forget about her? Her weird yet well encouraged fashion taste, she'll wear the lady's version of tuxedo with matching magician's hat on any given sunny day. The way she applied her foundation on a hot melting day and the fact that her mom gives her fifty-pesos for every module done. Ta;l about desperation. And the way she calls Leaonich when we're in 1st grade, Leooooooaanich! Leooooanich! ....which brings us to the next person

Leonich Murillo: He's like, Wow. He never really did any modules at all the whole freaking school year since 1st grade. As in never, when we're in 6th grade, he still has some subjects in 3rd grade. I swear. However, I think he changed a little now. And no matter how retarded he is, he's still a friend back then and all that.

Things I won't forget about him? When he shoplifted hair-doctors and other trinkets when we used to have a school fair and there are lots of booths around. The fact that no matter how angry all the teachers were to him, it still doesn't matter. When he and Abbie used to linger around the school no matter how late they were in their subjects, as if it doesn't really matter at all. Hahahah! ....which brings us to the next subject

Abbegail Bustamante: One of those peeps who developed such a big pair of bumpers in such a young age. I can still remember that I baptised her as "Abbie BOOBstamante." I still am in good contact with her, she now lives in Ontario and she helped me apply for college and university admission three years ago in Canada.

Things I won't forget about her? Mostly the same things I mentioned about Leonich, she's a shoplift accomplice. I think her Rabbit is cute.

Martin Ojeda: This guy is so tall then, he's originally from the Aeta tribe and they (him and younger brother Michael) used to live right across Sto. Domingo Church. As you can see now he has an amazingly down to earth hair. Yay modernization!

Jullie Macasero: I can still remember alot about Jullie but can't seem to put them in words, cause she didn't utter much words too back then. Like me, she's so tahimik. Right! Judging from her Friendster pictures, I think she's about to finish Nursing on a University in Texas. She met up with Ricardo Lee in Vegas recently..

And this is Ricardo Lee: ..with Wolverine. I last saw him on the last school day of 1st year high, but we're still kind of connected cause he's friends with my present friends from Homeschooling too. Duh.

And here's their sweet picture together... Awww..

Conrad Gaerlan: In New Zealand now, recently told me that a friend of his knew me and told him that I am famous in The Philippines. Hahaha! Imbento! Or maybe not? Okay so Conrad's Appendix was removed, so what right? It's that he's wearing a Burberry Scarf while on the hospital bed, I smell something. Kidding. Anyway he told me he idolizes my work and all that crap, he also promised that he'll host me if ever I get to visit New Zealand. Yay free accomodation!

Things I won't forget about him? His weird highlight lining right on top of his ears. His gay voice tone and intonation, and his maniac nature. Hahha!

Stacy Falcon: She's like the crush of all the guys back then, dated Jose Chua whom I never heard of since. Sophia, any updates? UST di ba? Hahaha!

Things I won't forget about her? When I meanly put KATINKO Ointment on her Nape (batok yata), she washed it with water and it gets even hotter. Just way toooo many to name.

Lastly, Leandro Ong: My uber best friend back then, we're like classmates since Preparatory, always been together cause the class arrangement is always alphabetical. Actually, before writing this entry, I just cleaned my closet (luggages, unused clothes and all that crap) but still can't find old pictures with him (first communion etc).

Things I won't forget about him, when he vandalized Lucio Tan's great great gate. Hahaha! And waaaayy tooo many things!

Isn't this post so long? I know this won't matter at all if you're not my elementary batchmate. It's just amazing how people changed.

Cho Seung-Hui Documents

Posted by: Angelicum
Here's the two-part video. A package mailed to NBC News by Virginia Tech killer Cho Seung-Hui contained disturbing video, writings and photographs of the troubled student. Authorities say Cho killed 32 people and then himself at the Blacksburg, Virginia, campus on Monday, April 16. The network reported the package was mailed at 9:01 am, between two shooting incidents and the photos show Cho handling the two handguns he used in the massacre. NBC News has given the material to investigators.

And here are some screenshots:

Cho's poetry was so intimidating -- and his behavior so menacing -- that Giovanni had him removed from her class in the fall of 2005, she said. Giovanni said the final straw came when two of her students quit attending her poetry sessions because of Cho.

"I was trying to find out, what am I doing wrong here?" Giovanni recalled thinking, but the students later explained, "He's taking photographs of us. We don't know what he's doing."

Giovanni went to the department's then-chairwoman, Lucinda Roy, and told her, "I was willing to resign before I was going to continue with him." Roy took Cho out of Giovanni's class.

"I know we're talking about a troubled youngster and crap like that, but troubled youngsters get drunk and jump off buildings; troubled youngsters drink and drive," Giovanni said. "I've taught troubled youngsters. I've taught crazy people. It was the meanness that bothered me. It was a really mean streak." (Watch how the cause of Cho's behavior could have been physical )

Roy, who taught Cho one-on-one after removing him from Giovanni's class, recalled Cho exhibiting a palpable anger and secretly taking photographs of other students while holding the camera under his desk.

His writings were so disturbing, she said, that she went to the police and university administrators for help. (article via cnn.com)

US Peace Corp Found Dead

Posted by: Angelicum on Wednesday, April 18, 2007
I was alarmed last night by a colleague from YAFE about the missing US Peace Corp Volunteer Julia Campbell who reportedly hiked alone. YAFE also has its own US Peace Corp Volunteer, and as part of the network of beneficiary of the corps, I am deeply saddened by the news. Julia Campbell's body was found dead in the mountains of Banaue in Ifugao, her body buried with only her feet protruding above the ground.

Message from Julia's Family: "During the past two years, Julia has been on assignment, she has served in various roles in the villages of Donsol (province of Sorsogon) where she worked with the local school there to rebuild and stock the school library. Many of her friends and family helped her in a campaign she created to provide age-appropriate reading materials to the library in a project she called "A Book and A Buck." She also worked with the local community to launch an ecology awareness campaign and build an Eco Center in Donsol. Most recently, she served as a teacher at the Divine Word College in Legaspi City, where she taught English."

"Julia is a bright, strong, and gifted woman. We are optimistic that the search efforts will be successful, and we continue to pray for her and the people who are searching for her."

Inquirer: "A search team from the Philippine Army's 502nd Infantry Brigade found the body of Julia Campbell in Battad village at around 10:30 a.m., but the cause of her death has yet to be determined, Major General Rodrigo Maclang, Army 5th Infantry Division chief, and Lieutenant Colonel Bartolome Bacarro, military spokesman, said Wednesday.

Campbell, 40, of Fairfax, Virginia, went missing April 8 in the area outside Banaue where she had planned to view the famed mountainside rice terraces. Police have said that she might have fallen off a cliff.

Late last week, the US Embassy in Manila had declared her missing.

"She [Campbell] was found buried, with her feet protruding from the ground," Maclang said, quoting his men, who were at the scene.

A multi-agency search team, composed of elements from the Philippine Army, the Philippine National Police (PNP), assisted by the US Embassy and Peace Corps, started scouring the Ifugao mountains last Saturday."

My deepest Condolences to her Family and US Peace Corps colleagues.
